Kate works as an artist in the beautiful seacoast town of Portsmouth New Hampshire harnessing a variety of media including graphite, watercolor, pen & ink, color pencil, or wood carving. She currently is creating a body of work abstract art inspired by Hilma af Klint. Her goal was to utilize mediums that do no harm to the earth. Kate’s passion is to express the energy of things, similar to Hilma making a “map of the world that encompasses the physical and the unseen”.
Kate’s past work was inspired by the great John James Audubon and his dramatic depictions of birds and other fauna. The fact that several of the birds, animals and plants portrayed are threatened or endangered is an important reminder of how quickly species can disappear and why conservation is so important.
As a self-taught artist, Kate has spent her life practicing her craft. After a career in information technology project management, Kate has dedicated her second career to the expressions of energy in art. Her creations have been displayed and sold in exhibits in the New Hampshire seacoast area. In addition, Kate’s art is in numerous private collections.
Kate passes her knowledge by teaching art using materials that do no harm to the earth. Her classes include drawing, color pencil techniques, nature journaling and mindfulness journaling. Kate is a Reiki Master and certified Manadala Facilitator with the process of the late Judith Cornell aka Rajita Sivananda. She has created an online self study course called “Understand Your Chakra’s Through the Mandala” – this course is currently going through revision and will released in 2024.
ARTIST STATEMENT
It is my intention as an artist to express the spirit and healing energies of nature. My work is inspired by nature, light, symbols, textures or patterns. From a young age, I have been enthralled with the energy of the natural world and creativity. All art forms have the capacity to provide a path for emotional and spiritual healing and have been practiced in many traditions throughout the ages. I create first for my own peace, then as a way to share my love of nature, creativity and spirit. I love to see someone look at nature from a different perspective and benefit from it’s healing energy. It’s my way of inviting the viewer to appreciate what nature offers us every day. Just look, breathe, listen and enjoy the magic mother nature provides in our journey towards wholeness.
